The Soundwave

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Soundwave is a sarcous chasm which, implied by its namesake, produces and associates with myriad sounds and noises. Most of which include a cacophonous rhythm of screams and wailing, while others may include beautiful hums and whistles. All noises produced in the Soundwave originate from large human-like jaws embedded in the fleshy walls which are known as Noisemakers. It can be entered via a triple-set of osseous triparite gates, located in the Great Chasm. Which are opened via interaction with a squishy white knob embedded in the chitinous walls around the Soundwave.

The entrance gates will immediately lead into the entry chamber, which is lined with over four dozen Noisemakers. The majority of the sounds produced in the entry chamber are high frequency screeches, loud wails, and yells of agony. If unprepared, the cacophony of sounds may disorient or deafen organisms.

The actual purpose of the Soundwave is unknown, and it seems as if its only goal is to produce the maximum amount of noise possible. Noisemakers gradually decrease in concentration based on your location in accordance to distance from your entrance to the Soundwave. In short, Noisemakers are more concentrated in the fleshy tunnels near the entrance of the Soundwave. Although there have been myriad reports of Noisemakers forming clusters around points of potential interest in the Soundwave.

Entrance

The Soundwave can be entered via a triple-set of osseous triparite gates, located in the Great Chasm. Which are opened via interaction with a squishy white knob embedded in the chitinous walls around the Soundwave. These entry gates will lead into a semi-circular entry chamber, which is completely coated in Noisemaker maws. As said above, the sheer amount of cacophonous sounds produced by the large amount of Noisemakers can disorient or deafen those who enter unprepared.

The Noisemakers continue to cover the sarcous tunnels until finally Noisemakers, and in turn the nightmarish sounds they produce, begin to thin out in concentration further from the Soundwave’s entrance.

The Soundwave is not heavily guarded, usually being guarded by a singular Aaraneus cybersoldier. This suggests that the Soundwave is not very important to Ja’luhhor’Alothian existence and is therefore not protected as such.

Inhabitants

There are no organisms that are native to the Soundwave. Its longterm hostile effects on living creatures that explore it also apply to creatures that attempt to live within it. Multiple cadavers have been discovered in the deeper portions of the Soundwave, all of which have had their soft tissues sonically ruptured. Also, these cadavers do not appear to belong to any extant species discovered. Multiple organisms hypothesize that these creatures originally inhabited the Soundwave, or what existed before it; however after Noisemakers or possibly even the Sounwave itself began forming, habitation became nigh impossible due to the immense amount of sonic energies.
