Rot Jungle

Reading Time: 6 minutes

The Rot Jungle, also known as the Toxic Forest, is a vast and dangerous expanse of fungal growth that stretches for miles in all directions. The jungle is home to a wide variety of deadly and toxic molds, many of which are capable of releasing spores into the air that can cause severe respiratory problems for any living creature that comes into contact with them. The spores are also capable of terraforming the surrounding areas, turning them into a more suitable environment for the fungal growth.

The jungle is also home to a number of hostile mutants, many of which have been created by the fungal decay that is prevalent in the area. These mutants are often aggressive and will attack anything that comes near them. The jungle is also home to a hivemind known as the Overrot, a powerful entity that controls the growth and spread of the fungal decay. It is said that Facility 2-9ZB, a temple research facility, was overrun by the Overrot, making it a dangerous place to be.

The Rot Jungle is extremely dangerous, and it has been generally considered a frontier that should never be tamed. As fear serves as a boundary preventing the Jungle from being contained, tamed, or fought, the Toxic Forest has been given an untold opportunity to spread and grow. Indeed, the Rot Jungle’s overall size is increasing, and in a matter of decades it could increase in size by 500%. In a sense, the Rot Jungle is a singular super-organism, and in fact the largest known organism with the exception of the World-Serpent herself.

Geography

Facility 2-9ZB

Facility 2-9ZB was once a state-of-the-art research facility dedicated to the study of the ancient Kumlquat temple ruins and artifacts. The facility was built deep in the Rot Jungle and consisted of several large buildings, including a main laboratory, living quarters for the researchers, and a power plant. The main focus of the research at 2-9ZB was the study of ancient blood magic practices and artifacts.

However, the facility’s success was short-lived as it was overrun by a dangerous fungal decay known as the Overrot. The Overrot is a hivemind consisting of white mold and a variety of hostile mutants. The Overrot was able to infiltrate the facility through the air ducts and quickly took over, killing or infecting most of the staff.

The Overrot’s ability to spread rapidly and infect living organisms made it nearly impossible for rescue teams to enter the facility. Those who did enter the facility and survived reported that the Overrot had taken over every corner of the facility, and the entire complex was now a twisted, fungal labyrinth.

The few remaining survivors of the facility, who managed to escape before the Overrot took over, reported that the fungus seemed to have a sort of intelligence and was actively seeking out new hosts to infect. The Overrot also seemed to be able to communicate with each other, as if they were all part of a single entity.

The Overrot’s origins are unknown, but it is believed that the research conducted at Facility 2-9ZB may have played a role in its creation.

Kumlquat Ruins

The Kumlquat Ruins are a series of ancient temples that were built by an unknown civilization in the distant past. They were once grand and majestic structures, adorned with intricate carvings and intricate architecture. However, they have since been overrun by the Rot Jungle, and now lie in ruins. They are located in the Festering Dunes.

The ruins are a labyrinth of twisting corridors and crumbling stone, with vines and mold creeping over every surface. The air is thick with spores and the ground is slick with rot. The ruins are home to a variety of unique bio luminescent fungus, which provide light for the inhabitants of the Underdark.

The temples were the subject of research by Facility 2-9ZB, which was attempting to uncover the secrets of the ruins and the civilization that built them. However, the facility was overrun by the Overrot, a dangerous fungal decay and hivemind consisting of white mold and hostile mutants, and the research was never completed.

Now, the Kumlquat Ruins are a dangerous place, filled with traps, deadly fungus, and mutated creatures. Few dare to venture into the ruins, and those who do rarely return.

The Underdark

The Underdark is a vast network of interconnected caves and caverns that lies beneath the Rot Jungle. It serves as the foundation of the jungle, providing support and nourishment to the towering molds and fungi that make up the surface of the jungle. The Underdark is a dark and foreboding place, with very little light penetrating the thick layers of mold and fungus that cover the cavern walls.

The Underdark is home to a wide variety of unique and often dangerous fungi. Some are luminescent, providing light in the otherwise dark caverns. These fungi can come in various colors, from soft blues and greens to bright yellows and oranges. Other fungi in the Underdark are poisonous or emit noxious fumes, making it dangerous for creatures to navigate.

Some of the most notable fungi in the Underdark include the Sporeshroom, a mushroom-like creature that releases a cloud of spores that can cause hallucinations or even death. The Fungal Bulb, a large glowing mushroom that is known to be edible and safe to consume. The Bloodcap, a mushroom that secretes a thick, red sap that is highly flammable and has been used by some creatures in the Underdark as a form of incendiary weapon.

Inhabiting the Underdark are creatures that have adapted to the harsh conditions of the caverns. Some of the most common are the Fungoid, a race of sentient mushroom-like beings that have formed a symbiotic relationship with the fungi of the Underdark. They act as caretakers of the jungle, making sure that it is healthy and balanced. Other inhabitants include the Underdwellers, a race of underground-dwelling humanoids that have adapted to life in the dark and use the unique fungi of the Underdark for food, medicine and light.

Overall, the Underdark is a mysterious and dangerous place, filled with unique and deadly flora and fauna. It is a place that is often avoided by creatures that are not adapted to its harsh conditions, but for those that are, it is a place of great opportunity and resources.

Festering Dunes

The Festering Dunes are a vast desert region located on the outskirts of the Rot Jungle. Once a barren and inhospitable wasteland, the Festering Dunes have been taken over by the Rot Jungle’s fungal growths. The unique strains of fungus that have taken root in the Festering Dunes have adapted to the desert’s high temperatures and arid conditions, and now thrive in the dunes. These fungal growths are characterized by their thick, leathery skin, which protects them from the intense heat of the sun. The Festering Dunes are also home to a variety of other fungal creatures, such as molds and mushrooms, which feed on the nutrients in the desert sands.

The Festering Dunes are also home to a number of ancient ruins, believed to be the remains of a long-forgotten civilization. These ruins, known as the Kumlquat Ruins, were once grand temples and structures that have been abandoned for centuries. However, the Rot Jungle has taken over the ruins, and now they are overrun by fungal growths and infested with mutants. The Kumlquat Ruins are now considered a dangerous and treacherous place, and few dare to enter them.

Facility 2-9ZB, a temple research facility, was built near the ruins to study the Rot Jungle and the Kumlquat Ruins. However, the facility was overrun by the Rot Jungle, and now it is also infested with fungal growths and mutants. The facility’s research on the Rot Jungle and the Kumlquat Ruins was never completed, and now it is considered a lost cause.

The Festering Dunes are a harsh and unforgiving environment, but they are also home to a unique and fascinating ecosystem. The fungal growths that have taken over the Festering Dunes are a testament to the Rot Jungle’s ability to adapt and survive in even the most inhospitable of environments.
